This year, Mae’s big sister is learning the flute. It’s a big step up from the ukelele that she – uh – played? – last year. We’ll see. I wonder if Mae will take an interest in playing a musical instrument. She loves to sing and dance – so, we’ll see.

Both of them are going to their grandparent’s house for the weekend. Alison and I are going out this evening to do some food and wine tasting – lots of wine tasting, I hope. I’m in need of quiet. No kids. No constant chatter and whining and complaining. Just some grown-up time – maybe talk about something other than the whereabouts of Leah’s retainer, or the state of Mae’s straw hair… Anything but that…
I love Mae more than anything I can think of – but there are times when I think my chest is going to cave in from all the stress she causes…
I am going to thoroughly enjoy the next 30 hours. Let the fun begin…

The first two images I took of her earlier in the day were just okay – nothing all that compelling. I knew I needed something just a little better – but the light was fading fast. Her big sister came to the rescue. If I suggest I take a photo of Leah by herself, Mae gets all in a tizzy. She just has to be in the photo — so, outside she came. I told them where to sit, Lainey decided to take part – I checked my light meter, adjusted my exposure settings – framed up the photo – and was done in less than 30 seconds. Not bad. I’m much happier with this image.
Today is another day.

Mae still holds out hope that someday I too will want to be a camper. Not gonna happen. Roughin’ it for me is staying at the Howard Johnson’s. I don’t like waking up to snakes in my sleeping bag, or bears eating my bacon. Nope. No way. I’ll stay home and enjoy the peace and quiet.
I think Mae is glad to be back home. She’s now laying on our new bed watching a Barbie movie… girls — pfft…
