Dropping Big Sister at Camp

July 6, 2013

There they are – way up there together. Mae is not happy her big sister is going off to camp for two weeks. It’ll go by fast.

Some days…

October 20, 2012

It’s not easy getting Mae to pose for me every day. Some days it’s almost impossible. The past few weeks have been particularly tough because everyone in the house has been sick. I’m just now feeling back to normal – after nearly 4 weeks of thinking I was going to die. So – I take photographs when I can – and some days there’s never a good time. For this photo I had to ask Leah to pose with her sister – it was the only way Mae would cooperate – but just look at her – she wasn’t happy. She just said, “Dad, take the picture, I’m cold. I want to go back inside.” Fair enough. Someday, I hope you appreciate my efforts…

Big sister casting her shadow

This time next year they’ll be in the same school – which means I’ll drive them to school – drop them off – and not have to pick them up until nearly 4. Yes. That will be so nice.

This year, Mae’s big sister is learning the flute. It’s a big step up from the ukelele that she – uh – played? – last year. We’ll see. I wonder if Mae will take an interest in playing a musical instrument. She loves to sing and dance – so, we’ll see.

Fashion Week

The girls are always coming up with props for photos — this weeks theme – fashion. BUT, I can’t help but think of Afro Circus.

Tough as nails

August 25, 2012

Together, they are like a category 4 hurricane – Sustained winds of 131-155 mph; heavy, irreparable damage, power loss for weeks – yes, they can…

Both of them are going to their grandparent’s house for the weekend. Alison and I are going out this evening to do some food and wine tasting – lots of wine tasting, I hope. I’m in need of quiet. No kids. No constant chatter and whining and complaining. Just some grown-up time – maybe talk about something other than the whereabouts of Leah’s retainer, or the state of Mae’s straw hair… Anything but that…

I love Mae more than anything I can think of – but there are times when I think my chest is going to cave in from all the stress she causes…

I am going to thoroughly enjoy the next 30 hours. Let the fun begin…

The Crew (minus Saydie)

August 24, 2012

Some days it’s nearly impossible to get Mae to pose for me. She understands the project. She knows I need at least ONE good image of her a day. Just one. So when it takes me THREE shots to a good image, life with Mae can be difficult.

The first two images I took of her earlier in the day were just okay – nothing all that compelling. I knew I needed something just a little better – but the light was fading fast. Her big sister came to the rescue. If I suggest I take a photo of Leah by herself, Mae gets all in a tizzy. She just has to be in the photo — so, outside she came. I told them where to sit, Lainey decided to take part – I checked my light meter, adjusted my exposure settings – framed up the photo – and was done in less than 30 seconds. Not bad. I’m much happier with this image.

Today is another day.

They’re back…

August 9, 2012

It was raining early this morning, so they decided to cut the day short and come back home. Whimpy campers.

Mae still holds out hope that someday I too will want to be a camper. Not gonna happen. Roughin’ it for me is staying at the Howard Johnson’s. I don’t like waking up to snakes in my sleeping bag, or bears eating my bacon. Nope. No way. I’ll stay home and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I think Mae is glad to be back home. She’s now laying on our new bed watching a Barbie movie… girls — pfft…
