Fall Light

October 1, 2012

There are two seasons I love to photograph within — spring and fall. The light in both seasons is distinct, soft, cinematic, beautiful, alluring — and probably a bunch of other things I just can’t quite explain. If I were locked away in the dark for a year or two — and brought out into the light only once every few months – I know I’d be able to tell what season I was in simply by the quality of light — I have no doubt…

Okay – call me crazy — but I love light… and, as I said, spring and fall light just do it for me…

I think Mae loves the fall, too — mostly because she gets to wear her favorite jackets and hats — and she looks forward to when new ones rotate into her lineup. The hat she’s wearing in the photo is one of her all-time favs — and I think a favorite of anyone who happens to meet her when she’s wearing it. It’s just her. However, I won’t be surprised when she comes up with another favorite — and I’ll welcome the new addition – because Mae will then insist on wearing her new hat and ask that I photograph her so we have something to remember when she’s older…

That’s how she rolls.

She’s all about the hats

It’s officially fall – a time when Mae goes to the hat drawer to pick out a few old favorites – and – makes a few suggestions for new ones. I love photographing her in her hats. This hat is one she’s had for a while – she loves the flower – and people love seeing her wear it — but it’s a little worn. We may have to put it away to preserve for when she’s older and has her own baby.
