Last BFF Play Date for the Summer

August 28, 2013

August 28, 2013

The summer had to come to a close sometime – and – what better way to close things out than to have a 7 1/2 hours play date with your bestie? Yeah, it was a long day, but they had a great time together – as always. I’m a little sad they’ll be going to different schools, but there will be more play dates… Sigh…

Growing up together

These two. Boy oh boy. They’ve been besties before they could walk. They have such a great friendship. I love watching them grow up together.

Getting ready for the big day

October 22, 2012

These two. They’ve known each other a very long time. Although, I asked them if they remember being in sing-song camp together (They were both around 1 1/2) – they thought I was joking! They couldn’t remember. They swear the first time they met each other was the first day of Junior Kindergarten last year. I thought my memory was bad…

Mae is all about fashion – but she’s quiet about it – she just does her thing. She’s VERY particular about what she wears, and she now insists on dressing herself. What happened to my little baby? Where did she go?

Fall Light

October 1, 2012

There are two seasons I love to photograph within — spring and fall. The light in both seasons is distinct, soft, cinematic, beautiful, alluring — and probably a bunch of other things I just can’t quite explain. If I were locked away in the dark for a year or two — and brought out into the light only once every few months – I know I’d be able to tell what season I was in simply by the quality of light — I have no doubt…

Okay – call me crazy — but I love light… and, as I said, spring and fall light just do it for me…

I think Mae loves the fall, too — mostly because she gets to wear her favorite jackets and hats — and she looks forward to when new ones rotate into her lineup. The hat she’s wearing in the photo is one of her all-time favs — and I think a favorite of anyone who happens to meet her when she’s wearing it. It’s just her. However, I won’t be surprised when she comes up with another favorite — and I’ll welcome the new addition – because Mae will then insist on wearing her new hat and ask that I photograph her so we have something to remember when she’s older…

That’s how she rolls.

Red show and tell day

September 28, 2012

Every Friday Mae has show and tell at school. This Friday was RED show and tell. So, Mae went all out. She wore red in addition to bringing her cool red satin cape to show everyone. She even had an elaborate story to tell about her cape (one I had never heard before). Apparently, she wears the cape at home and pretends to be Little Red Riding Hood – and yours truly plays the part of the grandmother. She avoided eye contact with me as she spun the tale to her classmates – but I did manage to catch her eye as she was wrapping up — I think she got the message — a little embellishment is fine – but let’s not get carried away.

After school on the porch

September 25, 2012

It’s not easy taking interesting photos of Mae every single day, but I try.

I came across this site today:

Dave Engledow

Brilliant photos. I wish I would have come up with the idea. Now, I don’t think Mae would be very cooperative. I can’t begin to imagine the bribes it would take to put together just ONE crazy photo — but – hey – it might be worth a try…
